Chuck Schumer Falsely Claims That All Americans Who Wanted To Leave Afghanistan Were Able To

On Tuesday, Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer claimed that every American who wanted to leave Afghanistan was able to.

There is a problem with Schumer’s statement: It’s not true.

Schumer: ‘The Americans, All Of Whom Wanted To Come Out, Have Come Out, Praise God’

Schumer told a WSYR-TV reporter at the New York State Fair, “At the moment actually, I’m still focused on trying to get some of those brave Afghans out.”

“The Americans, all of whom wanted to come out, have come out, praise God,” he claimed.

“But there are a lot of Afghans who have risked their lives for our soldiers and others,” he continued. “Many got out, some didn’t, and I’m still working on trying to get some of them out.”

But Schumer’s claim is not what the State Department says on the subject. The agency estimated that there are, in fact, Americans who were left behind in Afghanistan.

A Schumer spokesperson claimed the Democrat just misspoke.

“He misspoke and regrets the confusion his comments have caused,” the spokesperson told the Washington Post.

“He intended to say, as he has been saying, that the U.S. will get everyone out that wants to get out,” they added. “And he will keep working with the Biden Administration to help everyone who wants to get out.”

White House Chief Of Staff Klain Believes Americans Are Still In Afghanistan

White House chief of staff Ron Klain said on Sunday that he estimates around 100 Americans who want to leave are still in Afghanistan.

“We believe it’s around 100,” Klain told CNN. “We’re in touch with all of them who we have identified on a regular basis.”

“Obviously, we’re hopeful that, in the coming days, the Qataris will be able to resume air service out of Kabul,” he added. “And, if they do, we’re obviously going to look to see if Americans can be part of those flights.”

“We are going to find ways to get them — the ones that want to leave, to get them out of Afghanistan,” Klain promised.
